Game Changers - How to Make Millions with Storage Business in Dubai
In this episode you will learn more about Mr. Wadih Haddad, owner of ‘The Box’, a storage facility in the UAE and listed as # 72 in the Dubai’ SME list. His journey began between 2002 and 2003, when he first moved to Dubai seeking new opportunities straight out of college. It was not easy, he explains, as he had to go around from place to place dropping CVs and getting rejected over and over again. Luckily, a friend of his managed to get him an interview with a logistics company, that ended up offering him his first job as a sales executive, which he accepted. Two years into that job, he came across a client who needed a place to store some goods and, in an attempt, to solve his client’s problem, the box was born.
The box was initially just a small space in a warehouse that would be leased to his customers to store their goods. Yet, as demand grew, so did the company, which has now 30 different locations in Dubai alone, with approx. 300 units each. In fact, the success of the business gave Wadih the chance to meet Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai earlier this year.
Some of the things he believes contributed to the success of the company, were the skills he acquired working as a sales executive, as he used to be very shy and had no people skills whatsoever. Likewise, the experience he got from working in a big corporation, allowed him to better understand how corporations operate, as well as the importance of having corporate values in an organization.
As the interview goes on, he shares some of the things that have helped him the most throughout his career. He believes that investing on oneself can be very rewarding and considers knowledge to be the one thing that could give you the most returns of all. He also suggests to anyone that might be thinking of starting their own business to learn to be comfortable with failure, as it is the only thing that would allow one to improve and become the best.
